We are a cycling team driven by adventure, passion and good times. 2017 started with a 6 week training camp in Fallbrook California. David Dawson broke his collarbone the first week. Davey is a warrior and had his bone bolted /wired together and was back on the bike one week later.
Jake had the most interesting story about battling a heart arrhythmia. He had an ablation procedure to correct his skyrocketing heart rate but it went horribly wrong when the doctors tried to ablate his heart he went into cardiac arrest. Following that unsuccessful operation the doctors told him to live a sedentary lifestyle. That obviously didn’t last long since were were having this conversation on a bike ride. Jakes passion for riding bicycles and motorcycles fits perfectly with this team. Check out his company on instagram https://www.instagram.com/highwayman_co/.
Jake showed up to speed week in April and placed in the top 5 almost every night of racing against some of the best riders in the world. Ryan DeWald quickly became a work horse welding the field back together in attempt to set Jake up for field sprints. That was the theme for the rest of the season. It didn’t take long for Kyle Penny and Davey to start becoming welders too.
Riding the front of the races became routine for the rest of the year. Everyone stepped up throughout the season and pictures of Skyline riders on podiums became a weekly occurrence. We had a series of great guest riders and experienced racers teaching the young racers hands on tactics.
By the end of the season we did 65 races in 44 cities. We secured a 3rd overall in the team standings at the USA criterium series with Ryan placing 4th over all and Kyle taking home the best under 25 rider jersey and Davey in 15th.
Wes Kline secured a full time teaching potion with summers off to race. Wes is the perfect example of the balancing act between bike racing, work and family. Keep an eye out on Justin Butsavage another Lehigh Valley talent we are taking out of the jr. ranks.
Going into 2018 season Team Skyline is working with Winning The Race With Diabetes foundation. WTRWD Powered by Team Skyline is a group of free thinking inspirational athletes chasing their dreams and inspiring people to live in high definition, not watch it. Working directly with Winning The Race With Diabetes gives the team a platform to spread a positive message and help combat America’s health issues such as diabetes and heart disease.
Team Skyline will be putting on cycling demonstrations with Saris Hammers and collecting current data to collaborate with Current blood glucose levels. This will help bring a better understanding to the energy process or lack of. Public seminars in city’s we race in give the hosting town an opportunity to meet the riders and create a liaison between the racers and the community.
Winning the Race with Diabetes (WTRWD) was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 2016. The purpose of the organization is to inspire, educate, and support adults, children, and those children’s parents who have been diagnosed and are living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). This education and support will be focused on techniques for living healthy, active, and athletically competitive lives while managing the disease. The primary mission of WTRWD is to inspire, teach, and demonstrate how to fully manage T1D, thereby reducing its long-term health risks through a highly active and athletically competitive lifestyle. This mission will be carried out by conducting seminars and events to train people of all ages with T1D to overcome the disease’s tendency to inhibit athletic activities that ultimately exacerbate its adverse health effects. The closely related secondary mission is to motivate youth currently unimpacted by diabetes to be physically active and healthy as means to combatting childhood obesity and decreasing the risk of being impacted type 2 diabetes (T2D).
