The UCI Continental Mens Team and the Womens Domestic Elite Team collectively known as Team Skyline-Cadence has kicked off the 2024 season with a bang, demonstrating our commitment to early preparation and high-level competition. We began with some thrilling racing just after the new year, setting the tone for the season. A big win from two time winner John Delong, bested the Belize National champion and the powerhouse Legion team in a showdown in Belize, and later on Holy Saturday we competed again in Belize and one upped the same teams again but missed the top step of the podium by a few meters, with John and his 3 teammates
The UCI Men’s team has four wins, one KOM General Classification, several podiums, and multiple top 10’s at prestigious UCI 1.2 & 2.2 races in North America and Europe. Most notably, Luke Pharis won a road race in Texas in early February. Conn McDunphy won the KOM jersey on day one of the South Aegean Islands Tour UCI 2.2 in Greece. The Team raced for three weeks in Greece at all 4 events in the Tour for a total of 9 UCI days.
Our U23 program kicked off shortly after Greece, and the lads took starts at six UCI 1.2MU events throughout Italy. During this time, the remainder of our team started the 4day stage race, Rad Munham in Cork Ireland, where they won the opening team time trial, putting Liam Flanagan into yellow. Conn McDunphy would go on to win the KOM general classification.
Next on tap was the Tour of Gila ,a UCI 2.2 stage race in Silver City, New Mexico (USA) at the end of April. Conn McDunohy put out an impressive ride, making the breakaway two out of the five days. On one occasion, he came within 200 meters of winning the criterium from his solo breakaway. He also took 7th in the time trial. Liam Flanagan salvaged the day with a fourth place at that criterium.
From there, the team was split between Norway and Italy. Both sets of races were UCI 1.2 category events. In Sundvolden Norway our Adam Lewis took 10th on day one while Conn McDunphy took 9th on day two. The boys in Italy had a solid day at Circuito del Porto in Cremona IT, but were struck with bad luck in the closing kilometers with a big crash. Mihnea Harasim made the best of it and finished off the back of the reduced leading group following the crash. Mihnea traveled back to his home country shortly after the race and managed to snag a 4th place in his home country of Romania at the 2-day stage race, Turul Colinelo.
The men recently competed at USA Nationals and Gran Premio New York UCI 1.2 on May 19th weekend. Conn McDunphy , with the help of Adam Lewis made a select chase group bridging to the main break of the day in New York, but came up short with 14th overall against an impressive international field, in spite of being hit by another team car sending him to the tarmac and setting him back 4 mins.
Our domestic elite women’s team has been a powerhouse, racking up an impressive nine wins and several podium finishes. Colleen Gulick has been a standout, sweeping all 6 CBR criteriums in Los Angeles, California, and representing Team USA at the Pan Am games on the track. She also clinched 1st place in the team pursuit with Team USA at Pan Am Games. Her success has been recognized by USA Cycling, who have announced her as a member of the women’s track team for the 2024 Olympics. Jess Chong has also left her mark, winning a criterium in Allentown, PA. Our Canadian ladies has been equally impressive, dominating the local scene in Canada. Julie Lacouriere showed off her early season form, by finishing 3rd in the overall at the Tucson Bicycle Classic. The five women squad also participated in the Tour of Gila UCI 2.2.
