Justin McQuerry and Andrew Scott both raced their respective state championships this past weekend, placing third in each race. Justin McQuerry placed 3rd in his home state of Texas, and Andrew finished 3rd in his new home state of California. The podiums represent the 4th time this season that Skyline riders podiumed or won at their home state championships.
Justin McQuerry Places 3rd at TX State Championships
Late summer heat and a stacked field could not stop Justin McQuerry, Type 1 diabetic, from landing on the podium at the state championships of his home state, Texas. The race was whittled down to a select few as the final gallop for the line neared, where Justin got just pipped at the line for the top step.
“Racing in the heat was hard, but it’s all I’ve known for a long time. It definitely gave me an edge over the rest of the field,” Justin explained. With a string of crit races in his legs, Justin’s form was good going into the race. Everything ticked along as expected, a testament to the reliability of and discipline of Justin to show up to every race ready to rip.
Andrew Scott places 3rd at CA State Championships

In that same weekend, Andrew Scott was racing the CA State Championships in Victorville, CA. Victorville is an outskirt desert town on the rim of the Mojave desert. Desert conditions definitely set the stage for the race- dusty roads, high heat, and some of the gnarliest head winds were in store for the field as they rolled out just past 1 PM.
“The conditions exploded the field,” Andrew let us know. “Most of the field was decimated by the end of the race, as the winds picked up towards the end of the 88 mile race, and cramping was a big problem for many.”

The last race of the season for Andrew, he managed to find some good form despite the fatigue that plagues most at the end of the year. With racing concluded, Andrew and the rest of the team are looking forward to some rest before focusing on building base for the 2022 season.
The two podiums here mark the 4th states that the team podiumed at or won this season, including Trevor August and Jake Castor winning at the NY State Championships, and Joseph Lupien taking 2nd at the AZ state TT championships. East, Central, or West, Team Skyline this season has shown a deep diversity not only in backgrounds of our riders, but also the disciplines in which they excel.
